Very little is written or told about Dushala and it is believed that she was almost neglected in the Hindu scriptures. Let us tell you about a few facts about this misfortunate daughter of Kuru.

1 Dushala (also written as Dussala) was the only daughter of King Dhritarashtra and Queen Gandhari.
2 Gandhari showed discontent of not having at least one daughter during the famous boon. That’s when Vyasa prepared another vessel for her only daughter, Dushala.
3 Being the only sister of the Kauravas and the Pandavas, Dushala grew up in Hastinapura being loved by her siblings and under the wise guidance of Bhishma.
4 She later got married to the powerful king of Sindhu called Jayadratha, who happened to be a man of split personality.
5 Dushala had to face a lot of humiliation and sorrow because of her husband’s uncivil manners. She also had a son named Suratha.
6 Arjuna was responsible for the death of both her husband and her son.
7 After her son’s death, Dushala was devastated and she famously told Arjuna these words, "We need peace. Let us end this strife forever. No more, never, this war."
8 The popular Kathakali play called Arjuna Vishada Vruththam focuses on Dushala as the main character.
9 Sri Kunniradathu Malanada Dushala Temple is one of the few shrines dedicated to Dushala of Mahabharata.
